When I was a kid and out deer hunting with my father, we slept in an old late 40’s panel van, the type with the canvas top if anyone can remember that far. One night the van started jumping all over the place. We made some noise while looking for the gun and flashlight and the movement of the van ceased. We jumped out the back of the van and Dad shined the flashlight around until we saw a pair of eyes looking at us from about 40 feet away. The eyes were slowly swaying back and forth. All we could see were the eyes and they were far enough apart that we knew it had to be a bear. Then it turned its head and we couldn’t see anything (the flashlight batteries were old and didn’t have a lot of power. We wisely decided to get back in the van. Turns out a bear was scratching its back on the rear bumper of the van, there was some hair left on the bumper. Since we were camped in an old apple orchard, I guess we were intruding on the bears eating area. Larry
