Reggy the dog with a sharp fly She is Reggy the dog who is a type of animal that is certainly entertaining and probably every owners dream to have one just like her with full of energy and yet very obedient and protects it’s owner very well actually nibbling at another wondering dog 10 times it’s size. Photograph by Romeo R. In fact if I had a choice in a dog this one would certainly be at the very top of my list let alone it also stay in it’s area without a leash at camp. I have been out on a coupled of outing where this pooch as been around me but what does Reggy and a sharp fly has in common? I was just pulling my 6 wt. 9′ Sage out and had a fly still on my tippet from my previous outing and no sooner that I laid the fly down, someone says cookie Reggy and this dog was running for it’s treat and stumble on my fly line and in full force running towards it’s owner manage to hook herself on my #8 hook fly. I then heard a sharp cry from Reggy and felt so bad has I tried to stop her from getting this hook from being snag any worst on her belly. She co-operated so very nicely in it’s owners lap has I had to make sure the small hook on the barb was pinch down before taking the hook out. I then cut a small 4 inch section of good strong tippet material and place it around the tail end on the bend of the hook and grip it with my left hand with my other finger pressing the hook eye down on this puppy tight against it’s body and pulled the hook out sharply. Now what was good was Reggy was fine afterwards and very little damage done thank goodness for Reggy. The good news is knowing what to do helped me a lot to dislodge this hook of her belly and the dog kiss me and made up to me after 5 minutes of this trauma. The learning experience that I have learned from all of this is it’s no different taking a small hook out of Reggy the dog as you would for any human body parts except an eye or other anatomy sections of our bodies. But thanks for Reggy being a good sport and not hurt for long she was still my friend kissing me for the rest of my outing and looking at me releasing smallmouth bass and small northern pike from the camp dock. It’s owner a very good friend of mine has all the reasons to be proud of this dog and like I have mentioned earlier, it’s just one of these dogs that you can’t help but love to have around. Tight line, Romeo R.
