The Fly Fishing Festival is back
Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 MANCHESTER It’s been two years since the American Museum held its Fly Fishing Festival, but on Saturday, Aug. 16, the Festival is back and is bigger and better than ever. From antique dealers to artists, reels to rods, a unique mix of more three dozen artisans, collectors, conservationists and more will be assembled on the museum grounds on Route 7A in Manchester from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be many special exhibitors and demonstrators this year including fly tyers who will share the art of fly tying; and, builders from Skywoods Canoes will take us through the phases of canoe construction. Stonehouse Silversmiths will feature hand woven silver creel baskets and several artists, including Adriano Manocchia and fish carver Ellen McCaleb will be exhibiting and selling their art. Jordan Mills Rod Company will have their hand-crafted rods and Lang’s Auction will be present with their fishing collectibles. The museum’s Antiques Road Show will also be taking place throughout the day, so go through the attic and dig out Grandpa’s old rod. Fishing and tackle specialist Bob Selb will be appraising all of your old gear and fishing collectibles free of charge to assess their value. New this year, the Festival will feature a family area where younger anglers can learn how to tie flies with Museum Deputy Director Yoshi Akiyama and try casting with some smaller rods. Admission to the festival is $3 (no charge for AMFF members or children 13 and under). Admission to the Festival and current exhibit, Odgen M. Pleissner: The Sporting Grand Tour, is $10 (14 and older) and $5 for ages 5 through 13). Tight line, Romeo R.
